Just east of Huntsville, Alabama, the Flint River gently winds through forest and farmland over 50 miles to the Tennessee River. It is a fantastic place to canoe, kayak, swim and fish, though my first experience on the river was not entirely without worry.
I published an account of this family river expedition in the Valley Planet on April 30, 2009.
